Green Room is a turbulent, violent, siege thriller from Jeremy Saulnier. It follows the Ain’t Rights, a downtrodden punk band that unintentionally witness the murder of a young woman and subsequently find themselves trapped within a remote Oregon roadhouse, surrounded by a murderous group of skinheads that want them dead.
The Fundamentals of Caring is a great feel good movie and much of this is because of the writing from Rob Burnett who also directs this movie. Burnett can’t claim all the credit though as the story is based on a novel by Jonathan Evison.
Boasting some stunning visuals, sporadic bouts of violence and at times unbearable tension. The hugely impressive Sicario from Denis Villeneuve (Arrival) is a hard hitting thriller of a film that delves into the morality of the proxy wars being waged by US intelligence agencies against drug cartels in Mexico and the human effects on both sides of the border.
Son of Saul tells the story of a Hungarian group of Jewish prisoners named the “Sonderkommando” who are forced to assist the Nazis in the large scale extermination.
Arthur (Hill) and Martha (McKenna) are facing financial ruin after Arthur discovers his former employers have been liquidated and as a result no longer receives his pension.
I feel like this film would definitely divide opinion. Superficially, it’s got immature humour in spades, which has the potential to put a lot of people off, but if you give it a chance then it develops into an interesting story.
