Whether one considers it a comedy with horrific moments or a horror film that just happens to be really funny, at least Freaky isn’t another parody, nor is it the kind of self-aware meta-horror purveyed in such films as The Cabin in the Woods. With smart writing, amusing performances and a wild spin on a familiar premise, saddling it with a dumb mash-up title like Freaky Friday the 13th would have been a disservice.
S. Craig Zahler is a new voice in American cinema. His oeuvre includes his debut film Bone Tomahawk, a sun-bleached, blood-thirsty horror western, and his last film Brawl in Cell Block 99, a rough, no-holds barred riot-fest spectacular.
This should prove that Vince Vaughn is a solid to very good actor, I thought he got lazy with his comedy work and just played the same character. This role will get him tons of work cause he was committed and showed a ton of range.
