The digital release date for “The Nun II” has now been unveiled. Following its theatrical release on September 8, the sequel to the 2018 religious horror film “The Nun” offers just under a month in cinemas.

This installment, “The Nun II,” continues the harrowing tale of Sister Irene and her relentless battle against the malevolent demon, Valak. The cast of “The Nun II” features Taissa Farmiga, Storm Reid, and Bonnie Aarons, with direction by Michael Chaves, known for his work on “The Curse of La Llorona.” Surprisingly, “The Nun II” is arriving on digital platforms quite swiftly, considering its relatively short theatrical run.

According to an initial report by When To Stream, viewers can purchase “The Nun II” on Amazon and YouTube starting October 3. This release comes merely 25 days after the movie’s theatrical premiere, marking one of the shortest digital release windows for Warner Bros. this year. The swift transition to digital platforms is unexpected, given the movie’s performance in theaters. To date, “The Nun II” has amassed over $76 million at the domestic box office and a global total of $231 million, taking international ticket sales into account.

These box office figures are particularly impressive, especially when considering the film’s estimated budget of $38.5 million. Additionally, “The Nun II” remained at the top of the domestic box office for three consecutive weekends, surpassing higher-budget rivals such as “A Haunting in Venice.” Although it boasts one of the briefest digital release windows, “The Nun II” following its theatrical release follows a pattern established by Warner Bros. The studio has previously made films like “The Flash” and “Blue Beetle” available for digital rental just 32 days after their theatrical releases, despite their comparatively lower commercial success.

Notably, “The Meg 2: The Trench” achieved an even shorter turnaround, becoming available for digital rental a mere 21 days after its theatrical debut. Considering “The Nun II’s” robust box office performance, Warner Bros.’s decision to expedite its digital release may come as a surprise to some.

Nevertheless, these impressive box office results suggest a promising future for the film in the streaming realm. As the Halloween season approaches, with an influx of horror films in theaters, “The Nun II” will have an opportunity to attract viewers seeking spooky entertainment from the comfort of their homes. Its digital availability will also cater to those looking to binge-watch the entire “Conjuring” universe this autumn.
