The final musical masterpiece from The Beatles, titled “Now And Then,” has hit the airwaves, accompanied by an astonishing music video directed by the three-time Oscar winner, Peter Jackson. In a surprising revelation, Jackson confessed his initial reluctance to helm this monumental project.

This track, initially crafted by John Lennon in the late ’70s and later refined by fellow band members, was a hidden gem, marred by technology limitations that prevented its release. However, Peter Jackson’s pioneering audio restoration techniques breathed new life into the song, allowing Sir Paul McCartney and Sir Ringo Starr to complete it over four decades after its inception.

John and Stephen discuss the song and video “Now and Then” by The Beatles

Released alongside a remastered version of their 1962 debut single “Love Me Do” with cover art by the renowned US artist Ed Ruscha, “Now And Then” has already garnered nearly five million streams on YouTube, with fans tuning in on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

Jackson’s candid statement on The Beatles’ website revealed his apprehensions about the responsibility of creating a fitting music video for the band’s last song, given their iconic status and the absence of half the original members. Despite his initial hesitation, he found himself swept along by The Beatles’ determination.

The music video unveils rare footage of the band in their early days, showing them in a relaxed, humorous, and candid light. Jackson’s hope is that it will evoke deep emotions among viewers. He had access to valuable snippets of The Beatles performing in their leather suits, as well as previously unseen footage from their 1995 recording sessions.

As the music video takes the world by storm, devoted Beatles fans lined up overnight in Liverpool for a chance to own a vinyl copy of “Now And Then.” Notably, it was a dedicated fan, John Lennon, who legally changed his name from Alan Williams in April 2022, who purchased the very first copy of this newly released gem.

In the upcoming week, Beatles enthusiasts can look forward to the release of two albums: remastered and extended versions of the 1962-66 and 1967-70 collections. In a touching documentary about the making of “Now And Then,” Sir Paul McCartney expressed his gratitude for the enduring influence of The Beatles and the remarkable journey of working with the band. This new release marks a poignant moment in music history, with “Now And Then” standing as possibly the last chapter in The Beatles’ storied discography, a genuine Beatles recording featuring all the original members.
