In a recent interview with ComicBook, Chris Pine candidly addressed the prospect of returning to the superhero genre, specifically the DC Universe or the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in his future acting endeavors. Notably recognized for his role as Steve Trevor in the DCEU’s initial Wonder Woman film—a pivotal success that delved into the iconic heroine’s origin story—Pine’s character experienced a poignant narrative arc, meeting his demise in the inaugural installment, only to resurface in Wonder Woman 1984, concluding his storyline definitively.

Despite the anticipation surrounding potential appearances in the expanding DC Universe or forthcoming MCU productions, Pine asserted that such aspirations are not currently on his agenda, responding succinctly with a decisive “No” during the interview.

While there was initial speculation about Wonder Woman 3 being in development within James Gunn’s DC Universe, subsequent reports clarified that DC Studios had no plans for the project. Gal Gadot, the lead actress in the Wonder Woman franchise, had previously hinted at discussions with Gunn and DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran regarding the film’s development, supposedly as part of the new DC Universe.

A significant consideration arose concerning the potential return of Pine’s character, Steve Trevor, in Wonder Woman 3. However, such a move would not only risk redundancy but also diminish the emotional impact of Steve’s storyline in Wonder Woman 1984. The idea of revisiting Diana’s mourning of Steve’s sacrifice for a third time, especially in a storyline set in the present day, would seemingly serve as unnecessary character torment.

Pine’s potential disinterest in reprising a superhero role aligns with a desire to explore a diverse range of movie and television projects. Although he may distance himself from the superhero genre, speculation remains about the possibility of Pine assuming a non-superhero character in a limited capacity for a one-and-done DC or Marvel project in the future. Such a role could afford him the flexibility to engage without the extensive commitments associated with portraying Steve Trevor.

As the industry evolves, time will unveil which Hollywood stars choose to align themselves with the dynamic landscapes of the DC Universe and the MCU.
