Directed by Eli Roth, this slasher film expands from the parody trailer featured in the 2007 throwback double feature Grindhouse.
Eli Roth, in an official announcement on his Instagram account, joyfully confirms the greenlighting of the sequel, Thanksgiving 2.
The storyline follows the masked killer, John Carver, seeking revenge on the town of Plymouth during Thanksgiving week for a tragic Black Friday incident the previous year.
Despite its modest $15 million budget, the movie debuted impressively, earning $10.3 million at the domestic box office. Notably, it maintained momentum with the smallest second-week drop among 2023 horror films.”
Eli Roth not only delightedly confirmed the green light for Thanksgiving 2 on his official Instagram but also encourages fans to catch Thanksgiving, still in theaters. Roth, along with screenwriter Jeff Rendell, shared plans to take a year off for dedicated scriptwriting. The highly-anticipated sequel is slated for a 2025 release, likely around the Thanksgiving season.
Although we’ll have to wait around two years for Thanksgiving 2 and another year for the script’s completion, the ending of Thanksgiving hints at where the sequel might unfold. Despite the explosive finale that suggested Sheriff Eric Newlon (played by Patrick Dempsey) might have met his end, a tantalizing twist in the final scenes reveals a masked figure, resembling a firefighter, exiting the scene. This leaves us speculating whether Newlon is, in fact, alive and poised to carry on his plans for festive revenge.
