Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav, along with Motion Picture Group’s co-chairs and CEOs Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, have successfully negotiated a strategic partnership deal with acclaimed actor and producer Tom Cruise, set to take effect this year.

Under this groundbreaking $13 billion deal, Cruise will actively engage in the development and production of both original and franchise theatrical titles in which he will play a leading role. Notably, Cruise and his production company are set to establish an office on the Burbank, CA lot. While the last collaboration between Cruise and Warner Bros was the 2014 sci-fi action hit “Edge of Tomorrow,” grossing $370.5 million globally, this new agreement is poised to open a fresh chapter in their partnership.

It is important to clarify that this arrangement is not exclusive, as Cruise will continue collaborating with Paramount, where he is currently working on “Mission: Impossible 8,” and Universal, where he is involved in the production of a $200 million space-themed film directed by Doug Liman. Cruise maintains a non-exclusive relationship with any specific studio, and as of now, there are no projects officially in the pipeline, as it is still in the early stages of development.

Expressing enthusiasm about this collaboration, Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy stated, “We are thrilled to be working with Tom, an absolute legend in the film industry. Our vision, from day one, has been to rebuild this iconic studio to the heights of its glory days. When we first discussed joining the Warner Bros Discovery team with David Zaslav, he emphasized the mission of bringing Warner Bros back to its pinnacle, stating, ‘We have the best resources, storytelling IP, and talent in the business – and we need to bring Tom Cruise back to Warner Bros!’ Today, that vision becomes a reality, and we are one step closer to achieving our ambition. We couldn’t be more excited to welcome Tom back to Warner Bros and look forward to bringing more of his genius to life on screen in the years ahead.”

In response to the collaboration, Cruise expressed, “I have great respect and admiration for David, Pam, Mike, and the entire team at Warner Bros. Discovery and their commitment to movies, movie fans, and the theatrical experience. I look forward to making great movies together!”

Cruise, a three-time Oscar nominee, recently experienced the highest-grossing film of his career with 2022’s “Top Gun: Maverick,” which earned $1.49 billion worldwide and received six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. His 2021 release, “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning,” grossed $567.5 million globally, ranking as the sixth highest-grossing movie in his illustrious career.
