DC Universe executive James Gunn addresses speculations surrounding the alleged cancellation of The Batman – Part II in response to recent rumors. Following the successful 2022 release of The Batman, which introduced Robert Pattinson as a younger Bruce Wayne, director Matt Reeves is set to return for the sequel.

Currently slated for an October 2025 theatrical release, production for The Batman – Part II is imminent. However, a lack of recent updates has inadvertently given rise to rumors suggesting a potential cancellation. Concerns were brought to DCU co-CEO James Gunn on Threads by a user (@erikoliveira.eo411) questioning the validity of the “conspiracy theory” that The Batman – Part II had been canceled. Gunn succinctly refuted the claim with a “No” accompanied by an eye-rolling emoji.

While Reeves is actively involved in the sequel, his attention is also directed towards a new spinoff series, The Penguin, aimed at expanding The Batman universe. Additionally, it was disclosed that Reeves is developing the Arkham Asylum TV show for Gunn’s DC Universe. Originally discussed as part of The Batman’s Elseworlds universe, the series has transitioned into the main DCU slate, potentially contributing to the confusion surrounding the fate of The Batman – Part II.

Concerns about the sequel’s status were further fueled by comments from Jeffrey Wright, who portrays Jim Gordon. In an interview with ET Online, Wright mentioned, “You’ve seen as much of a script as I have at this point,” indicating that the cast had not yet received the screenplay. This, coupled with updates on the Arkham Asylum show and delays faced by the sequel, contributed to speculations that The Batman – Part II might be facing setbacks.

Unless there are delays to the scheduled October 2025 release, updates are anticipated in the near future. The announcement of a production date will provide insights into the readiness of the cast for the sequel and offer a clearer timeline for the new installment. Optimistically, positive updates regarding The Batman – Part II are expected to surface sooner rather than later.
