US actor Carl Weathers has passed away at the age of 76, as confirmed by his family. Weathers, renowned for his portrayal of Apollo Creed in the initial four Rocky films, reportedly “passed away peacefully in his sleep,” according to a statement released by his family. His cinematic repertoire includes notable roles in films such as Predator, alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore.

Weathers, originally an NFL linebacker, was described by his family as an “exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life.” Recognizing his impact on film, television, arts, and sports, they emphasized his enduring global recognition across generations.

Acknowledging Weathers as a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend, his versatile career encompassed both action and comedy. From Arrested Development to The Mandalorian, where he featured in all three seasons of the Disney+ series, he showcased his adaptability.

Born in 1948 in New Orleans, Weathers commenced his career in football at San Diego State University, later joining the Oakland Raiders in 1970. Over his 50-year Hollywood tenure, he appeared in 75 films and TV shows, earning an Emmy nomination in 2021 for his role in The Mandalorian. Beyond acting, he directed episodes for The Mandalorian, Star Wars, Law & Order, and Chicago Med.

Tributes poured in from co-stars and colleagues, with Schwarzenegger expressing gratitude for Weathers’ contributions to films like Predator. Notable figures such as Adam Sandler and Giancarlo Esposito remembered Weathers as a great man, actor, and athlete, leaving an indelible legacy.

Weathers, reflecting on his career in a 2023 interview, modestly referred to himself as a “lucky guy” and expressed a desire to inspire others in their pursuits.
