Xbox users in the UK are fuming over the possibility of exclusive games and series shifting to the PlayStation 5, causing many to question the value of owning an Xbox console.
Recent industry gossip suggests that Bethesda’s highly anticipated RPG, Starfield, may find its way onto the PlayStation 5, despite initial plans for exclusivity on the Xbox Series X/S.
While Microsoft has yet to verify these rumours, fans are anxious that this could pave the way for more exclusive games and franchises like Halo, Gears Of War, and the newly announced Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to launch on Sony’s platforms.
The reaction from fans has been overwhelmingly negative, with many expressing disillusionment at the prospect of Xbox titles becoming available on other systems, raising doubts about the need for future console purchases. Some speculate that the next step for the company could be to extend Xbox Game Pass to every platform.
In a Reddit thread discussing the news, one fan voiced their concern, stating, “I’m increasingly convinced that in 10 years, Microsoft gaming will simply be Game Pass on various third-party devices, and the Xbox brand will be a relic of the past.”
Angered fans are calling for Xbox head Phil Spencer to address the community directly and put an end to the constant speculation and uncertainty surrounding exclusivity deals.
Others argue that if the rumours are true, it undermines the entire purpose of owning an Xbox, with one user lamenting, “It feels like a waste to invest so much money into this ecosystem.”
Xbox enthusiasts can only wait and hope that their exclusive games remain exclusive, although history has shown that Xbox has made unexpected decisions in the past.
