Joker: Folie à Deux – A Musical Sequel Unveiled

Joaquin Phoenix reprises his role as the infamous villain, joined by Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn in the highly anticipated film, set to hit screens on October 4, 2024, coinciding with the fifth anniversary of the original Joker release.

According to a recent report by Variety, insiders familiar with the production reveal that audiences can anticipate a plethora of reinterpretations of “very well-known” songs in the movie, with one highlighted track being ‘That’s Entertainment,’ famously associated with the 1953 Judy Garland musical The Band Wagon. Additionally, there’s potential for a few original compositions to grace the film’s soundtrack.

The star-studded cast also includes Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz, alongside Catherine Keener (Being John Malkovich) and Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin).

Last September, composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, known for her work on the first film’s score, hinted at the sequel’s musical emphasis, teasing “a lot of music” in store. Director Todd Phillips further stoked anticipation by unveiling three tantalising images from the film in February.

The first depicts Gaga and Phoenix in full costume under a spotlight, surrounded by darkness, evoking an ominous atmosphere. The second image portrays the duo sharing an intimate moment through Joker’s prison bars, hinting at complex dynamics. Finally, the third image captures them dancing on a rooftop, suggesting a musical interlude within the narrative.

Gaga had previously offered fans a glimpse of her portrayal of Harley Quinn last April, as filming concluded. Sharing a photo on Instagram, she captioned it with, “That’s a wrap X Harleen,” showcasing her in character with a black dress and smudged black eye makeup.

As anticipation mounts, Joker: Folie à Deux promises to deliver a captivating blend of music, intrigue, and cinematic spectacle, poised to captivate audiences anew.
