Top Performers
Deadpool & Wolverine retained its top spot for the third consecutive week, earning approximately $54.1 million. Despite a 44% drop from the previous weekend, the film’s total domestic earnings now exceed $494 million, with a worldwide gross of over $1 billion, making it one of the biggest hits of the year.
It Ends With Us, a romantic drama adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestseller, opened strong with $50 million domestically. The film has garnered $80 million globally, a solid return on its $25 million budget. This positions it as a significant counterprogramming success against the action-heavy summer lineup.
Twisters a disaster film, continues to do well, adding $15 million to its domestic total of $222 million. The film’s worldwide earnings are now at $310 million, doubling its production budget.
Notable Newcomers:
Borderland based on the popular video game series, had a more modest debut with $8.8 million in the U.S. Considering its high production cost of around $110-120 million, the film will need strong international support and a sustained box office run to break even.
Despicable Me 4 though in its later weeks of release, still managed to pull in $8 million, bringing its domestic total to $330 million. The film has been a global success with over $807 million in total earnings.
Looking Ahead
Next weekend, the highly anticipated release of Alien: Romulus is expected to take the top spot. Early projections suggest it could open with a strong showing, given the franchise’s enduring popularity and the buzz surrounding this latest installment
