Commando (1985) Movie Review

Director: Mark L. Lester
Writers: Jeph Loeb, Matthew Weisman, Steven E. de Souza
Stars: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rae Dawn Chong, Dan Hedaya

“Commando” is a classic action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role. Released in 1985, the movie follows John Matrix (Schwarzenegger), a retired Special Forces operative who must come out of retirement to rescue his kidnapped daughter from a group of ruthless mercenaries.

The film is an absolute blast from start to finish, with non-stop action, incredible stunts, and a healthy dose of Schwarzenegger’s trademark one-liners. The action scenes are some of the best in any 80s action movie, with Matrix taking on entire armies of bad guys and emerging victorious. The film also features some great supporting performances from Rae Dawn Chong as Cindy, a flight attendant who helps Matrix in his mission, and Vernon Wells as Bennett, the main villain’s henchman.

One of the strengths of “Commando” is its sense of humor. Schwarzenegger delivers some of the funniest and most memorable lines in action movie history, including the now-iconic “I’ll be back” (which he first used in “The Terminator” but became a catchphrase in this film as well). The movie doesn’t take itself too seriously and knows exactly what it is – a fun, escapist action flick.

Another standout element of the movie is its score, composed by James Horner. The music perfectly complements the action on screen and helps to build tension and excitement throughout the film.

Overall, “Commando” is a must-see for fans of 80s action movies and Schwarzenegger himself. It’s a perfect example of the genre, with thrilling action, memorable characters, and plenty of humor. If you’re looking for a fun, adrenaline-fueled ride, “Commando” delivers in spades.
