The Recall Review

The Recall (2017) Movie Review by Darrin Gauthier

THE RECALL

Director: Mauro Borrelli
Writers: Reggie Keyohara III, Mauro Borrelli (story by)
Stars: Wesley Snipes, RJ Mitte, Jedidiah Goodacre

Plot:  When five friends vacation at a remote lake house they expect nothing less than a good time, unaware that planet Earth is under an alien invasion and mass-abduction.
Running Time: 90 Minutes
IMDB Score: 4.3

Why I Watched It: Basically because it’s genre and of course Wesley Snipes.

Random Thoughts: B-Movies are always hard to gauge, The Recall trailer looked decent and it’s good seeing Snipes back in action but also we forget he’s a good actor, or at least was, he’s not just an action guy and I hope to see him getting better material to work with.

What I liked: The only thing I liked in this film was Wesley Snipes, he’s fun and he’s not sleeping walking but he knows what kind of film he’s in.  Snipes still has the charisma to pull off these types of roles and still has the action chops. I kind of liked the basic idea that aliens are coming back and doing a “Recall” for a B-Movie that’s a decent hook.

What I Didn’t Like: The script and the acting, other than Snipes, is beyond bad. I get they had a low budget and boy it really shows, except for Mitte, the younger cast is pretty bad and the script does not help them at all, no one gets a character, they barely get types, only Snipes has anything to work with and I do think it’s because he just went screw I’m just going to make crap up.  The rest of the actors looked lost.

I don’t even want to call what they have special effects cause there’s nothing special about them.  It’s cheap and lazy film making.  They took a basic idea and really did nothing with it and it make it worse they go into the third act and try for twists and turns and I’ll be honest the film lost me half way through, I didn’t care for the characters or story and frankly the film is boring.  Two things you don’t want in a Sci-Fi is to be cheap and boring.

Final Thoughts: The only reason this film say the light of day is because of Snipes’ name value but I’ll warn even his die hard fans, there’s very little action and he’s pretty much on his own here.
