Why I Watched it: The good Lord only knows, I heard it was bad, like worst of the year bad but I do like the game it’s based on and of course I had to see how bad it was.

Random Thoughts: It’s safe to say Hollywood hasn’t broken the code on video game movies and goodness knows they’ve tried but i see this the way Hollywood screwed up the Super Hero or Comic Book movies if you will they have to respect the source but realise they have to translate it into a movie.  Now no lie this movie was hated by critics and it also brings up a point if Fassbender is a star even a great actor go look at his IMDB page, last year’s The Snowman also made many worst lists, jury is out on him at least his choices and don’t forget he co-produced this.

What I liked: This is going to be a short section, it is that bad so to find something good to say is hard, I still think the idea and by that I mean the idea and story of the game is decent and there’s a lot you could do with it but this film fails at almost every turn.

What I didn’t Like: Usually when i bigger film is hated or disliked I tend to think it was alright cause I was warned by expectations were lowered and I didn’t feel the pain others did.  Assassin’s Creed is a very bad movie on almost every level.  The look of the film is terrible, the amount of smoke in this movie is ridiculous even inside and it’s so darkly lit.  It’s one of those rare films where they pretty much got everything wrong. There’s a lot wrong with this film but the worst is the script, it makes no sense none.  It’s badly written the film can’t even make sense out of it’s own rules.  You can blame it on the video game but come on the game makes sense it it’s own way and it’s a fun game how you could turn it into the mess it was isn’t the game’s fault.

Acting, almost everyone is either miscast or wasted now for my money Michael Fassbender gives a bad performance and I realised as I was watching this, he’s kind of a smug actor and here he thinks he’s the bee’s knees of course going shirtless for a big battle that he’s just pantomiming in a room by himself.  I will say the script gives him no favours, we learn nothing about him, nothing there’s no reason to rout for this guy and he doesn’t come off that likeable and even the flashbacks of the past don’t help.  I felt bad for Marion Cotillard she looks lost and let’s be fair she’s not a big genre person so I would suggest she fires whoever talked her into this mess.  I won’t say anything bad about Jeremy Irons, his checked cleared so he’s happy and he’s earned this, I like him but man this is way beneath him.

Let’s get to the action, good golly this is a boring and really really over shot and over edited film, the fight stuff is boring the running on rooftops and jumping off building is a slog to get through.  The film is way too long, the pacing sucks and by the half way mark I wanted out but I sat through it so I could complain about in this review.

Final Thoughts: A misguided and boring mess of a film.

Rating: 2/10
