Why I Watched It: The trailer looked decent and I liked the plot.
Random Thoughts: So this comes from the guys who did Workaholics, I have to admit I had never seen the show, it lasted a while so I have to assume they have tons of fans, but to be clear this isn’t a Workaholics movie.
What I Liked About It: I’m taking a deep breath and going to my happy place, so give me a moment and let me think of something nice to say about this……movie.
I liked the chemistry of the three leads.
The idea of a comedy Die Hard, with three hotel workers instead of a cop against terrorists is a decent idea. The fact that there was three people instead of one opened things up a bit.
I’ve always like Neal McDonough and Rhona Mitra and I won’t hold this against them.
What I Didn’t Like: Goodness this is a terrible, awful and vile movie.
I feel better now. So this film goes beyond Adam Sandler gross comedy bad, this film in no particular order has a man who has his penis cut off and later starts throwing it at people, they blow up a dog, there’s frontal nudity and a lot of male frontal nudity, a man is forced to do a sexual act to another man, there’s sexism, very bad jokes at the expenses of almost everyone one. And folks this is a comedy. The biggest sin the commit is that none of this stuff is funny, it’s lowest common denominator, maybe lower than lower, it’s all crude and most cases offensive mostly because it’s lazy writing.
Let’s be clear gross out comedies can be funny but the gross out as to work not only within the movie but the characters and Game Over, Man do not have characters, this seems like someone yelled at the three leads alright you’re three bellboys and a terrorists has you trapped in a building go. There’s no structure here most of the jokes don’t come close to landing cause we don’t care about anyone here, this ranks up there for me with a film that had the most unlikable characters of all time. There’s some good actors here but man this is one note writing and all the actors give the same note.
To compound this mess they do a mass up of comedy and action and make a movie where there’s no laughs and the action stuff might be funnier than the comedy part but in the wrong way. This was a Netflix original and give them credit for giving us content but this might have be helped if someone was checking on what was going on, cause this film could have used about a million studio notes.
Final Thoughts: Hate is a strong word and so is my feeling about this film, it’s just badly done and it’s overtly not funny.
