Why I Watched It: Really you have to ask. To be honest this is more of a revisiting.
Random Thoughts: I first saw this on cable way back in the day and really only remembered a couple of things, so when Netflix released a bunch of the Friday The 13th films I went back to rewatch them and see how they held up.
What I Liked: The Friday The 13th franchise is a mixed bag and to say that really doesn’t do it justice cause they went all over the place with the Jason character and when the films worked they were fun and dumb and when they didn’t they were boring and dumb. This film Part VI but be the most fun, I do like Jason X as well. Part VI is batshit crazy, they went for it cause I think Part 5 was boring so they knew not only did they have to bring Jason back but they had to turn up the dial on the killings and also the camp. Starting the film off they way they did is amazing, I won’t spoil it but it’s both great and dumb as hell but it worked for the film and it helped bring some fun to a franchise that really didn’t get the joke, Jason is an unkillable monster and for the first few films they tried to play it for horror but this film they got what they were good at and went for it.
Now for the acting for what it is both Thom Mathews and Jennifer Cooke are likable and do decent jobs, Mathews takes over the Tommy Jarvis role and you have to feel for this poor guy, he go not only the short end of the stick but the pointy end too.
Kills are good and Jason is really the star here and after this film they went with that, now they do a couple of different things again nothing ground breaking but they made Jason a force now, since he’s come back from the dead and all.
What I Didn’t Like: Look it’s a campy and dumb slasher film so you kind of know what you’re getting into. Sure the supporting acting isn’t great and of course the plot is beyond silly but once you give in to that there’s not really much you can say. Do me horror films are like fast food, you know fast food isn’t healthy and you eat it anyway cause it’s quick and comforting and you know what you’re getting. The Friday The 13th films are the same thing you can’t complain what’s wrong with them cause you knew going in.
Final Thoughts: One of the better sequels and it’s a great crowd movie, have some friends over have your drink of choice and just have fun with it.
