Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (2022) Movie Review

Director: Sam Raimi
Writers: Michael Waldron, Stan Lee, Steve Ditko
Stars: Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is a 2022 superhero film directed by Sam Raimi and produced by Marvel Studios. It is the sequel to 2016’s Doctor Strange, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Benedict Wong, and Rachel McAdams.

The plot of the film follows Doctor Strange as he attempts to stop the multiverse from collapsing. When Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) seeks his help to find her lost children, Strange inadvertently unleashes a dangerous force that threatens to destroy all of reality. Along the way, Strange must confront his own fears and past mistakes in order to save the world.

One of the strengths of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is its visual effects. The film is a feast for the eyes, with stunning, psychedelic sequences that showcase the multiverse and the mystical powers of its characters. The action scenes are also well-choreographed and thrilling to watch.

The performances of the cast are also impressive, with Benedict Cumberbatch once again delivering a nuanced and compelling portrayal of Doctor Strange. Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff is also a standout, as she grapples with the loss of her children and the consequences of her actions in the television series WandaVision.

The film’s pacing is well-balanced, with plenty of action, humor, and emotional moments to keep the audience engaged. The storyline is complex, but the filmmakers do a good job of explaining the multiverse concept and its implications in a way that is easy to follow.

However, one criticism of the film is that some of the supporting characters are not as fully developed as they could be. Rachel McAdams’ Christine Palmer, for example, does not have much to do beyond being a love interest and a sounding board for Strange.

Overall, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness is a strong addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It is visually stunning, well-acted, and has a compelling storyline that expands the scope of the MCU. Fans of the superhero genre and Doctor Strange in particular will not be disappointed.
