Look Away Review

Look Away (2018) Movie Review

Director: Assaf Bernstein
Writer: Assaf Bernstein
Stars: India Eisley, Jason Isaacs, Mira Sorvino

India Eisley (Underworld) plays Maria, a troubled, bullied young woman in high school simply trying to get through life. Shamed at home by her father (Isaacs) and little support from her mother (Sorvino) she sinks deeper into the void. During a moment of “self exploration” she meets an image of herself in the mirror. Over a period of time, as one would guess, Maria’s personal issues grow and the reflection promises her solace with but a mere kiss. Once the kiss happens, Maria finds herself having switched places with her more freeing persona from the mirror.

Look Away is a simple yet effective revenge tale in the vein of Carrie (much less fire and destruction on prom night). Supporting roles from Sorvino and Isaacs are good, Eisley plays dual roles accordingly. Look Away has the makings of series potential under the “cursed horror” genre should it be taken seriously. Great film, worth a view or two, enjoy.
